Happy Freezin’ New Year: Canada’s (Most of the US too) Extreme Cold To Extend into 2018

So, it’s been a week of extreme cold already.... Starting December 25th and still going. News from the local FREEZE- This morning hubby and I were out to take our daughter to the GO stop in St Kitts aka St Catharines.

 It was -24 C or -11 F at 8:00 am December 31/2017. Wind chill sitting at -29 C
It is presently 1:08 pm EST and it's -15 Celsius or 5 Fahrenheit

Gosh that map makes me think of the glaciation maps during the last ice age...

The image above shows Alaska as being "mild". However that is measured?

You'll  notice that Alaska was not totally glaciated. As above, so below.
However, where I live, it was! Miles deep of ice.

The Laurentide Ice Sheet extended well into the US too!

Cold in Canada & US to Extend Into 2018

As we move into the new year, it looks like the cold temperatures are going to be coming with us.

According to Brett Anderson, senior meteorologist with AccuWeather, 80 per cent of Canada will experience temperatures significantly below normal over the next one to two weeks.

“On average, we’re probably looking at temperature anywhere from 6 C to 12 C below normal, which is pretty significant for the next ten days or so, on average,” Anderson said.

This widespread cold air mass concentrated across the eastern two thirds of North America, going all the way down to Texas and Florida, is the coldest relative to normal in the northern hemisphere, with Europe seeing near to above normal temperatures this winter.

“The coldest air relative to normal is going to be centered right across much of North America over the next one to two weeks,” Anderson said. “This large area of cold air is pretty rare, you don’t see them too often.”

Various parts of Canada

Ottawa and region- Cancelled the New Years Eve Festivities
A Canada 150 celebration on Parliament Hill, along with many outdoor events across the city, have already been cancelled due to extreme cold.

Montreal: Extreme Cold To Last into the New Year

The extreme cold conditions will impact outdoor New Years Eve celebrations from coast to coast.

Extreme cold covers nearly two-thirds of North America on this New Years Eve, with widespread weather warnings in place from the Prairies to Atlantic Canada and into the deep southern US

The year will be coming to a bitterly cold end in the City of Toronto.

At 4:37 a.m. today, Environment Canada continued its extreme cold warning, advising people to expect a “multiday episode of very cold wind chills”.

"A fresh surge of Arctic air is encompassing the entire province in its icy grip,” explained Environment Canada. “Although winds are relatively light, the extreme cold is expected to produce wind chill values below minus 30 this morning, and again tonight.
Energy Use Soars- Saskatchewan-

Cha-ching cha-ching the  carbon tax cash register rings!

“This is the greatest use we’ve seen ever in our history,” Burdeniuk remarked. “Usually when we have a peak day it will be one, maybe two days. To have seven in a row? That’s unheard of.”

While the cold is setting consumption records for SaskEnergy, it’s also going to leave a mark on people’s wallets

One of the longest longest running AGW prediction  was disappeared from the net in 2015- It’s now 2017, so 17 years later the Global Warming Cult, led by banks and big oil along with their phony green shills, still couldn’t be more wrong, but, they can at least hide their lies. Which explains why I couldn’t find any sign of the wrong, as usual, claims.

“Children won’t know what snow is”

However, the warming is so far manifesting itself more in winters which are less cold than in much hotter summers. According to Dr David Viner, a senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, within a few years winter snowfall will become “a very rare and exciting event”.
“Children just aren’t going to know what snow is,” he said.

Trekking to the South Pole- During the  beginning of the warm season

Qobin, 36, had trekked 85 kilometres of the 111-km journey on skis over five days, according to Datuk Akmar Hisham Mokhles, advisor of the 7 Continents Exploration Club (KE7B).

"I received a satellite telephone call from Qobin who informed me that the current expedition was his most difficult. The extreme cold, of negative 26 degrees Celsius, had numbed two fingers of his left hand and he cannot feel anything at all with them.
Thinking to myself as I read the Trekking news-, Wow... Extreme cold of negative 26 degrees Celsius in Antarctica- beginning of the warmer season- and my temperature today at 8:00 am was minus 24 celsius- beginning of winter.

"Qobin said several explorers from other groups had to be rescued and failed to complete their ski exploration to the South Pole due to the prolonged numbness of the hands and it is feared that they had suffered frostbite," he said in a statement here today.

Qobin began his trek over 111km to the South Pole last Friday.....

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis Sees U.S Civilian Presence Increasing in Syria

And one more thing- Don't bother taking on our Kurdish terrorists

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis says he expects there will be a larger U.S. civilian presence in Syria soon since the fight against the Islamic State (IS) extremist group is nearing a conclusion.

Mattis said in Washington on December 29 that U.S. diplomats and contractors are likely to return to the war-torn Middle East country as the focus turns to reconstruction and security.

"What we will be doing is shifting from what I would call an offensive, shifting from an offensive terrain-seizing approach to a stabilizing [effort]'ll see more U.S. diplomats on the ground," Mattis told reporters at the Pentagon.

Land grabbing. As stated for years now. For that Greater Israel..

Flashback:  Kurdistan aka “Second Israel”- Ethnic Cleansing the Indigenous of the Middle East
Jim Mattis

"There is international money that has got to be administered, so it actually does something, it doesn't go into the wrong people's pockets," he added.

The comments are likely to anger Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who have demanded the U.S. military pull out its estimated 2,000 troops once the battle against IS is over.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on December 28 that "we presume the Americans must leave Syrian soil as soon as the remnants of terrorist activities are fully eliminated there."
Surely Sergei Lavrov knows the Americans aren't leaving Syrian soil. It's obvious they aren't. It's obvious they never intended to.

Russia and Iran back Assad in the six-year Syrian civil war that has killed hundreds of thousands of people, while the United States and Turkey support different antigovernment groups that are fighting against Assad's forces.
IS militants joined the battle, opposed by all other sides, but have nearly been driven out of the country in separate campaigns by government and U.S.-backed opposition forces.

Mattis also warned Assad against launching any attacks against U.S.-backed Syrian Kurds, after the Syrian leader labeled them "traitors."

"That would be a mistake," Mattis said.
Flashback: Bashar Assad : Kurds That Work With Americans... Traitors

U.S.-led coalition troops are mainly in eastern Syria, while Syria and its Russian allies are in the west.
Meanwhile, Mattis also told reporters that the United States is determined to reduce the number of civilian casualties in the Saudi-led fight against Iran-backed rebels in Yemen by helping to train Saudi pilots to identify legitimate targets.

The UN's resident coordinator, Jamie McGoldrick, said on December 28 that 109 civilians had been killed in Saudi-led strikes in the previous 10 days.

Frozen Still - Warming Centres Open/Record Cold Temps Broken

The Snow Princess & her Polar Bear

Yaya, does that look familiar?  ;)

Anywhoooo.... the freeze continues

Temperature plunges to -30.5 C in Peterborough and smashes the all-time record for Dec. 28 set in 1933
The temperature in Peterborough plunged to -30.5 C early Thursday morning, feeling more like -37 C with the wind chill, according to Environment Canada.
The peak low temperature, which happened around 5 a.m. Thursday, smashed the all-time low temperature for Peterborough of -30 C set in 1933, according to Environment Canada records that date back to 1866.
It could have been even worse as the Arctic air mass continues to set in across southern Ontario: the Muskoka Airport had a record low of -36.4 C, North Bay Airport had a record low of -33.9 C and Barrie had a record low of -32.9 C.
Record lows for Dec. 28 were also broken in Kingston, Toronto, Niagara Falls, Kitchener, Windsor and Wiarton, Environment Canada says.
Peterborough and the Kawarthas remains under an extreme cold weather warning from Environment Canada, which also now covers most areas of central Ontario, eastern Ontario, northeastern Ontario and a huge swath of southwestern Quebec.
Extreme Cold in TO breaks 57 year record
The winter we're currently living through just saw temperatures dip to -22 C on Dec. 28 for the first time in recorded history.
Toronto (obviously) remains under an extreme cold weather alert as a series of cold weather systems continues to roll through Southern Ontario.
A period of "very cold wind chills" is expected today, according to Environment Canada, with wind chill values of minus 30 or below recorded already in the city this morning.
Warming Centres Opening
Warming centres are public buildings, including city halls, municipal offices, community centres, arenas and libraries, that welcome anyone inside during regular business hours to warm up during extreme cold events.
Warming centres are located all over the region, including Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge, North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich.
Extreme cold is a danger to everyone, although the risk is greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.
I've got more reports on the freeze that has set over much of Canada and a good part of the US.
It will be added later. For now I'll close with a brief reminder of how the carbonazi's have pushed the end of winter meme. Though we've persistently had cooler summers for years now- along with colder winters- Documented here at the blog

Warm winters, scorching summers: New maps project impact of climate change
All projected decades and decades into the future... why is that?
Is this the end of the Great Canadian winter?
A new report says that even if greenhouse gas emissions are reduced, all of Canada is projected to get warmer by the end of the century, while the number of 30 C plus days per year are predicted to “explode” under the current global warming trajectory.

Eastern Mediterranean May Be Scene of First Conflict of 2018

1st post of the day linked immediately below

And a Dead Battery in My Car.. Extreme Cold Continues as People Die

It's very, very plausible that the Eastern Med may heat up
I've relinked a few posts from 2017 covering the tensions in the area. They definitely relate to the latest news!

Eastern Mediterranean May Be Scene of First of 2018 Conflict

The eastern Mediterranean is expected to witness the first conflict of 2018, as developments at the end of 2017 are signaling worsening relationships between Turkey and the Greek Cypriot-Greece-Israel-Egypt bloc.
Territorial disputes over natural gas and newly discovered hydrocarbon reserves in the eastern Mediterranean basin are the reason.

Up until a few years ago, the hope was that these hydrocarbon reserves would offer a real opportunity for a peaceful settlement of the Cyprus conflict. But these optimistic hopes vanished with both Turks and Greek Cypriots unilaterally speeding up exploration and drilling operations.
In 2004, the European Union had declared the Greek Cypriots the sole entity representing the island of Cyprus and accepted it as an EU member. Feeling that its hand has been strengthened following the EU decision, the Greek Cypriots claimed the right of natural resources exploration in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) around Cyprus.

Turkey, however, has been insisting that the Greek Cypriot administration in Nicosia cannot unilaterally “adopt laws regarding the exploitation of natural resources on behalf of the entire island,” as it doesn’t represent the Turkish Cypriots. Also, there is a separate disputed EEZ between Turkey and Greece in the eastern Mediterranean — another point of tension in the conflict.

Ankara reacted strongly to the Greek Cypriots' natural gas drilling efforts in July. The Turkish army dispatched a frigate in the eastern Mediterranean to "monitor a drilling ship that is believed to have begun searching for oil and gas off ethnically divided Cyprus despite Turkey's objections,” The Associated Press reported.

On Nov. 20, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi visited Greek Cypriot for a trilateral meeting in Nicosia to discuss hydrocarbon resources in the region. In addition to Egypt’s president, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras also participated in the meeting, which was hosted by Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades. The Turkish Foreign Ministry, on the other hand, declared the outcome of the trilateral meeting to be “null and void."

However, despite Turkey’s opposition, drillship Saipem 12000 sailed to carry out exploration and drilling operations on behalf of French TOTAL and Italian ENI companies in the Calypso region between March 1 and Dec. 26 in accordance with an agreement reached during the trilateral summit.

Moreover, Italy, Greece, Greek Cypriot and Israel had already agreed on the construction of a gas pipeline from newly discovered fields. The project — dubbed “East-Med” — will cost some $6 billion. An over 2,000-kilometer-long (1,243-mile-long) pipeline will channel offshore reserves in the Levantine basin to Greece and Italy.

The East-Med project could be interpreted as an effort to form a regional alliance between Greek Cypriot and Greece to confront Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean. The Greek Cypriots and Greece also signed a separate agreement with Israel to channel natural gas reserves in the Mediterranean basin via an undersea pipeline. Italy’s participation in this project didn’t come as a surprise, as Italy has already been exploring natural gas in the Mediterranean on behalf of the Greeks. The undersea pipeline is expected to channel natural gas from Israel’s Leviathan Basin and Greece's 12th plot — also called Aphrodite — to Crete, and then to Europe via Greece.

On Dec. 5, the energy ministers of Greece, Greek Cypriot and Israel and the Italian ambassador to Greek Cypriot signed an accord in Nicosia on the construction of the East-Med pipeline. The participation of EU representatives in the ceremony indicated Brussels’ support for the project.

In 2017, the Greek Cypriots, Israel and Greece conducted three joint exercises in March, June and November. At the beginning of November 2017, Greece and Egypt held their first joint naval exercise for the first time in quite a while.

In response, Ankara initiated its own moves and issued a navigational telex to reserve an area for military exercises. The area covers the disputed sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth blocs that the Greek Cypriots had declared as their EEZ. Ankara’s declaration came at a time when Saipem 12000 arrived in the Mediterranean.

Also, the Turkish army has kept some of its forces in the eastern Mediterranean following NATO’s Standing Maritime Task Force exercise, which was conducted Nov. 7-16. The Turkish navy’s TCG Gediz and TCG Barbaros frigates; the TCG Kalkan, TCG Mizrak, TCG Bora and TCG Meltem gunboats; the TCG Akar fuel tanker; and four underwater commando teams are still in the sixth bloc.

In 2018, Turkey will have its first brand-new drilling vessel, the Deepsea Metro II. According to navigation data, the ship left Norway's Hoylandsbygda port some two weeks ago and is currently sailing west of Portugal. It is expected to arrive in Turkey on Dec. 31. The critical question now is whether the Turkish navy will be providing military escorts for the new drilling vessel.

If the Deepsea Metro II is to be escorted by a Turkish navy fleet while sailing to the sixth bloc, then the affair is bound to heat up. In the meantime, the Nicosia administration also announced that drilling operations in its EEZ would begin Dec. 30 and that Saipem 12000 would join the operations as well.

Now the question is whether Turkey’s Deepsea Metro II and Saipem 12000 and naval fleets escorting them will confront each other in the disputed sixth bloc.

One should also consider domestic developments in relevant countries when trying to measure the extent of a possible crisis. A possible hydrocarbon crisis is an excellent domestic political issue that all governments can use to consolidate their nationalist support base.

In sum — and in comparison to 2017 — one will witness more eventful scenes in the eastern Mediterranean in 2018. The only actor that could mediate between Ankara and Nicosia is not Washington but Moscow, the new shining star of the Middle East.
Perhaps Moscow can mediate between Nicosia and Ankara? Would that make a difference in this situation? What if Greece and Israel don't wish to negotiate with Turkey? Then what?
Could get complicated and dangerous

And a Dead Battery in My Car.. Extreme Cold Continues as People Die

Think of the song Partridge in a Pear Tree... But sing 'a dead battery in my car'

As mentioned in yesterday's post.. Baby... It's Cold Outside!
Though my area is not under an "extreme cold alert" We are substantially below our average norms
Environment Canada says long-lasting cold wave unusual for this time of year
Meteorologist Alexandre Parent said Wednesday the big chill is affecting the Prairies, Ontario and western Quebec and was to spread into the Maritimes.
But Nova Scotia was already dealing with a winter weather system that snapped hydro poles and knocked out electricity for thousands.
Parent said northern Ontario was being hardest hit with the current cold snap, with temperatures expected to feel like -50 C with the wind chill in some places.
"The size of this cold wave in terms of geographical distribution is quite exceptional for this early in the winter season.
"What's also exceptional is the duration of this episode," he said, noting that the extreme cold weather could hang over Quebec for the next seven days.
The weather specialist said he had to go back to 1993 to find a similar cold spell between Christmas and Jan 1.
Temperatures were colder then, but the extreme cold didn't stay around for long.
"The last few years we had one or two days of cold weather, but usually those were compensated by a few days near zero which is not the case  this year," Parent said.
"It's the span of days with ten to fifteen degrees below normal which are exceptional."

Man Dead from Hypothermia in Hamilton, Ontario.
A post-mortem on Wednesday morning determined the cause of death to be hypothermia, and not a result of the injury from the collision.

Arctic Cold Grips Canada and the Northern US
A homeless man froze to death at a bus stop in Ohio and people in Pennsylvania resorted to a bulldozer to clear snow Wednesday, as an Arctic snap gripped most of Canada and the northern United States.
In Canada, extreme cold warnings were issued for scores of communities across the country, including the heavily-populated provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
In the United States, a homeless man froze to death at a bus stop in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, local media said, quoting police and a homeless charity.
While Toronto reported temperatures of minus 15 C (5 F) and Ottawa minus 25 C, the coldest spot in Canada was minus 42.8 C in Armstrong, Ontario, according to Environment Canada.

The temperatures were 10 to 20 degrees below what is normal for the season, said meteorologist Alexandre Parent with Environment Canada.
The deep cold is forecast to remain until early January, he said.
“In my memory I have never seen cold weather that settles for such a long time in such a broad expanse,” Parent said.
But, I thought the Arctic was all warm and melty- Ya know "polar bears"
Does anyone care about the homeless man that froze to death at a bus stop? Or the poor soul lost to hypothermia ? Or do we all just care about manipulative psyops undertaken by bought and paid for scientists?

Extreme Cold Weather Alert Continues... Toronto Star

The extreme cold weather alert announced Christmas Day continues into Wednesday, with temperatures anticipated to reach a potential low of -21 C in Toronto.
Temperatures are set to stay low over the next few days, with a wind chill of -27 C threatening on Thursday and a high of only -13 C on Friday.

My local weather report is letting me know that the deep freeze I'm chillin' in will last till January 2nd/2018- And yes I really did have a dead battery today, a boost did the trick, but if the car doesn't start tomorrow.................

At 8:00 am the temperature according to Environment Canada was:

-22C (not factoring in any windchill) or -7 F (again, no windchill consideration)

At 9:00 am- outside my backdoor our big thermometer reads...

-17C or 0 F ( the sun is having it's usual warming effect)

Our averages for this time of year?

Baby... It's Cold Outside!

Mean Mr Carbon just ain’t livin’ up to his end of the bargain!

Environment Canada issued a slew of extreme cold warnings across the country on Tuesday.
Environment Canada says it issues extreme cold warnings when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
The agency is asking people to watch for symptoms related to the cold, including shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and a change in the colour of the fingers and toes.
In British Columbia, the agency warned that the Yoho Park and Kootenay Park region could see wind chills as low as -40 C due to a cold arctic ridge of high pressure that it predicts will remain over the region for several days.
Much of Alberta, Manitoba and the entirety of Saskatchewan were also subject to the warnings, and Environment Canada says the frigid temperatures are expected to continue through the end of the week.
Environment Canada issued the warning for parts of northern Ontario too, along with a snow squall warning for Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
Southern Ontario was largely spared from the extreme cold, save for parts of southwestern Ontario surrounding the Georgian Bay.
Was Southern Ontario "largely spared"?

Though my area is not under an "extreme cold alert" We are substantially below our average norms-  I was out today and it was frigid! Went for a short walk in Shorthills Park , with long janes (bottom and top) , wool socks etc., Layers and Outer shell. The cold was biting!  Our heat has been running nearly non stop in the house.

It is presently a very frigid 7 F or - 14C..... Way below seasonal norms
Our temperature for tonight is expected to be 5 F or - 15 C (I expect it's going to be colder)
As expected it was colder yesterday (December 26/2017)  -17.2 Celsius- that's one for the record books
Or norm/ averages are more right around the freezing mark  for this time of year
Averages:  - Max 34°F. Min 21°F. or Max C. Min -6°C.
This morning, December 27/2017,  it is a bone chilling - 18 C or 0 F
The cold on December 26/2017 is much colder then our coldest temp (15 year time frame) recorded in 2010 -7.6C
Environment Canada has limited the time frame of temps to control a specific narrative.
This was the coldest Christmas in decades in many parts of Canada
In Quebec, the agency warned that the cold arctic air was moving southward on Christmas Day night and Boxing Day, and would continue to do so on Wednesday.
It said wind chills could reach -42 C in the province.
While the Atlantic provinces were largely spared from the extreme cold warnings, much of Newfoundland and Labrador was subject to wind and blizzard warnings, as well as blowing snow advisories.
Environment Canada issued a swath of extreme cold warnings stretching from Alberta to central Quebec in the wake of a frigid Arctic air mass

I understand vast swathes of the US are frigid as well

Wintry mess of snow and ice to linger across U.S.

A blast of lingering, frigid air across the northern U.S. will keep the snow coming this week from the Pacific Northwest to the Great Lakes, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.
Christmas week will be cold and snowy for much of the northern and higher-elevation areas of the country. Snowfalls of 3-4 feet — the largest of the season so far — are expected for the next few days east of Lakes Erie and Ontario.
On Christmas Day, a stationary snow band off Lake Erie dumped nearly three feet of snow on Erie, Pa., more than four times the previous Christmas record and 14 inches more than the city's all-time record, which has stood for more than 60 years. The snowfall prompted city officials to declare a snow emergency. State police said drivers should avoid travel.

Erie Pennsylvania, my goodness, you are on the 'wrong' side of Lake Erie! Thankfully this side of the Lake has been pretty good. Having just been Nickel Beach way a couple of days ago! (Lake Erie's shore, Port Colborne- Erie PA being across the lake from Simcoe Ontario, roughly) Hope you guys and gals are ok? A sixty year record- shattered! Shadoobie!

Canadian JDL Member Indicted By Grand Jury For Assault Outside of AIPAC Conference

In case anyone who reads here is unaware? The JDL is a vigilante/terrorist group.
With that in mind let’s read about this most recent incident surely just one among an undoubtedly long list of crimes committed by this group that don't garner any attention.

We’ll start with news published today by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency
Then I'll provide some additional background via NowToronto
"A Canadian member of the Jewish Defense League was indicted by a grand jury in Washington DC for charges that include an assault on an Arab teacher outside the AIPAC conference in Washington, D.C.
Yosef Steynovitz, 32, of Thornhill, Ontario, faces one count of assaulting a man with a dangerous weapon and one count of assaulting another man.
The third count, assault with significant bodily injury, refers to the beating of Kamal Nayfeh, a 55-year-old Palestinian-American community college teacher who was reportedly walking to the conference when the attack happened, according to the Canadian Jewish News.
The third the count includes a hate crime enhancement for “anti-Arab bias” that could lead to an increased penalty if Steynovitz is convicted.
The dangerous weapon referred to in the indictment is a pole, as well as a shoe, both used in the attack on Nayfeh.
Steynovitz will be arraigned in court in the District of Columbia on Jan. 3."
Background from when this incident took place

Screen capture from video showing JDL Canada members involved in beating of a protestor at AIPIC conference in Washington, DC
"A member of the Jewish Defense League Canada, a group involved in several recent anti-Muslim protests in Toronto, has been charged with a felony count of assault in connection with the beating of a Palestinian-American community college instructor protesting the pro-Israel American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPIC) conference in Washington, DC, on March 26. The case is being prosecuted as a hate crime by the U.S. Attorney.
Yosef Steynovitz of Vaughan will appear in court in Washington later this month. JDL Canada members claim they went to the AIPIC conference to confront “anti-Israel gangs” planning to block the entrance to the conference.
But video capturing part of the alleged assault shows JDL members in distinctive black garb with a yellow Star of David logo beating 54-year-old Kamal Nayfeh, causing an eye injury that required 19 stitches.
A second JDL member from New Jersey (JDL’s parent organization was founded in New York) was also charged in the incident.
Ben Doernberg, another AIPIC protester who says he was “jumped” by JDL members, suffered a concussion. His symptoms were too severe to permit him to have an extended conversation when I contacted him for comment.
Most of the protesters who locked themselves to the front doors of the conference centre or unfurled a banner inside were affiliated with If Not Now, a Jewish group opposed to Israeli government actions in the Occupation Territories. A recent UN report accuses the Israeli government of imposing an “apartheid regime” on Palestinians and urges other governments to support boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel.
Who was the JDL protecting, then, from what Weinstein describes as “anti-Israeli, pro-Jihad gangs”?
 Video via Haaretz

One shows another altercation involving JDL Canada “security director” Zaza Vili and another member attacking protesters who were filming as they made their way to the event. Vili can be heard calling one of the two men filming a “racist fuckin’ piece of shit. Hope you die,” before abruptly turning on his heels and challenging the man to a fist fight. The other man with Vili then smashes the video camera."
Oh and btw the way.. Zaza Vili is affiliated with  "Soldiers of Odin" ,an alleged white supremacist group, (unknown to me until this article) that is infiltrated by the JDL
I wonder  if "soldiers of Odin" was actually created by the JDL?

"Pegida Watch Canada, a group set up to monitor anti-Islamic organization PEGIDA, or “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamization of the West,”  describes Vili as “the Dude,” because of his resemblance to the bearded character played by Jeff Bridges in the Coen brothers classic The Big Lebowski. Vili’s Facebook page, which hasn’t been updated since 2012, features a selfie with former Fox News personality Glenn Beck.
When he’s not at his day job (Vili works as sales representative for an international trade show production company), he hangs with white supre-ma-cists from Soldiers of Odin Canada, a Canadian offshoot of a Finland-based group, as he did at last month’s anti-Muslim gathering at City Hall protesting M103, MP Iqra Khalid’s anti-Islamophobia motion. (Coincidentally, one of the sons of the Norse god Odin was named Vili, or "Will").
Shalom Toronto reports that Vili’s full name is Tsitlishvili. It’s quite com-mon for JDL leaders to employ aliases. Weinstein, for example, has used the alias Meir Halevi."

That type of infiltration takes me back to the report, originally posted here in 2013, then relinked earlier this year,  regarding outed Jewish KKK Grand Dragon/American Nazi Party secretary and member!

Israel, same as the US, to Exit UNESCO- Breaking News

Via Jerusalem Post:
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday directed Israel's UNESCO ambassador Carmel Shama Hacohen to exit the United Nation's Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) after previous threats to do so.

Joining the US, which left UNESCO in October, Israel notified the organization that, as of December 31st, it will no longer be a member.

''Sane and well-run countries have nothing to find in the absurd theater which is UNESCO'', said Shama Hacohen. ''The US left UNESCO, at the bottom line, because of Israel, and it is our moral duty that it will not do so alone.''

Shama Hacohen also said that, led by Arab states and ''the oppressed, frustrated and ignorant [states] of the world, UNESCO had broken records of hypocrisy, incitements and lies directed against Israel and the Jewish people.''
''Sane and well-run countries have nothing to find in the absurd theater which is UNESCO''

Sane and well run countries being the US and Israel? Alongside those other alleged sane and well run countries that voted along with the US and Israel...??
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • Marshall Islands
  • Micronesia
  • Nauru
  • Palau
  • Togo

"The oppressed, frustrated and ignorant states of the world?"

I'm getting a real sense of arrogance from that statement.  An extreme and irrational sense of entitlement. An unwillingness to be accountable. Yup, sounds like something that would be emanate from Israel, and the US too, for that matter.

Tax Cuts & Jobs Act: Did the GOP Open THE Door To a Carbon Tax

Diggin' that double speak title- "Tax Cuts and Jobs Act" I suspect this act may be the set up for the carbon tax....

Trump did just sign this Tax Bill into Law
The U.S. Congress this week passed the tax bill along party line, with no Democrats voting for it.

At the signing ceremony, Trump called it "a bill for the middle class
and a bill for jobs," adding that "corporations are literally going

The tax bill, the sweeping rewrite of U.S. tax law since 1986, would
cut the corporate income tax rate to 21 percent from the current 35
percent and lower individual income rates.

The tax bill is expected to add 1.46 trillion U.S. dollars to federal
deficits over the next 10 years
, according to estimates by the
nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation.
This tax bill will NOT add to federal deficits in the amounts claimed if it opens the door for a carbon tax!

Did The GOP Just Open The Door To A Carbon Tax In 2025?

Supporters of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act like to describe it as a once-in-a-generation tax overhaul. It is arguably true that it is the most wide ranging tax bill in three decades. But key elements of the TCJA all but guarantee that Congress will be revisiting the tax code again in a few short years. The TCJA may be sweeping but it also may have a short shelf-life.

The first problem is its highly partisan nature. Republicans made no effort to craft a bipartisan bill and no Democrat voted for the measure at any step along the way. Already, liberals are vowing to overturn key business provisions should Democrats regain control of Congress in 2019. On Sunday, even before the TCJA passed, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was  predicting a future Congress would reverse corporate tax cuts.

Highly partisan? Xinhua "The U.S. Congress this week passed the tax bill along party line, with no Democrats voting for it."

As long as President Trump remains in office, Democratic efforts to “repeal and replace” the TCJA likely will fail. But, copying the GOP playbook after passage of the Affordable Care Act, Democrats aim to use the tax bill as a political cudgel to try to regain control of government and, should they get the chance, rewrite the tax laws yet again.

A legislative Mulligan
A mulligan is a second chance to perform an action, usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder.

But unlike the ACA, the TCJA explicitly opens the door to a legislative Mulligan. Because it repeals nearly all of its individual tax provisions by 2026, the new law not only encourages Congress to revisit tax policy within eight years, it requires it.

Republicans have described this as a binary choice for a future Congress. They say lawmakers must either extend the individual tax provisions or take the blame for the demise of what they believe will be popular tax changes, such as individual income tax rate reductions and a big increase in the standard deduction.

But Congress will have many more options than that. Of course, we have no idea who will control government in 2025. We do know that Donald Trump will no longer be president, even if he is reelected in 2020. And control of Congress is at best uncertain. Among other things, a major congressional redistricting may occur after the 2020 Census.
Punting on pass-throughs
As a small thought experiment, imagine that Democrats control the White House and at least one chamber on Capitol Hill in 2025. And imagine the debt has increased to about 90 percent of Gross Domestic Product, a fair assumption after taking into account the lost revenue from the TCJA

With the looming expiration of nearly the entire individual tax code, this future Congress will have an open door to rewrite the tax law in any way it wants. It could, for instance, keep the TCJA’s individual income tax cuts but allow key tax increases, such as curbs on the state and local tax deduction, to expire.
Congress could help pay for those changes by eliminating, or at least rolling back, the TCJA’s special tax treatment for pass-through businesses such as partnerships. Even the GOP-controlled Kansas legislature did just that earlier this year—over the objections of one of the most aggressive anti-tax governors in the country
A carbon tax?

Congress could also, in a new-found concern for the growing federal debt, undo some of the TCJA’s corporate tax rate cuts. It could reinvigorate the estate tax. Or, in a burst of ambition, it could enact a Value-Added Tax or a carbon tax. Imagine Democrats presenting US businesses and their congressional allies with a choice—an across-the-board corporate tax rate hike or some form of consumption tax. Are you confident predicting the outcome? I’m not. Tax laws often have unintended consequences. This could be a doozy.
In policy terms, eight years is the blink of an eye. And while the TCJA is a big, ambitious change to the tax code, it may also be an historically short-lived one.

I'd say the plan for a carbon tax is being initiated. It won't fly under Trump. But once he's gone... It's carbon tax time- a big, big tax grab. As I reported in June of this year Trump merely kicked  the political hot potato down the road- and the carbon tax grab is being prepared for.

Perhaps we'll be seeing Hillary Clinton's reappearance?

The good news: he can’t just pull the plug. Under the terms of the
agreement, it’ll take four full years to officially exit, which means
the next President can put a stop to this nonsense in 2020.

Attacking Kirkuk: Kurdish Militant Group Re-emerges in Iraq

And two great interviews from this past week

Attacking Kirkuk: Kurdish Militant Group Re-emerges in Iraq

Behind the times but very relevant to the ongoing situation regarding Kirkuk, Kurdistan aka Israel 2.0 and Iraq- Definite necessary background

BAGHDAD: The people and officials of the ethnically mixed Iraqi town of Tuz Khurmatu, 170 km north of Baghdad, talk about a new group that raises white flags decorated by the head of a lion drawn in black and carries out almost daily rocket attacks on the town, its surroundings and the suburbs of the nearby province of Kirkuk.
The group sometimes launches raids on the strategic road linking Baghdad to the northern oil city of Kirkuk, intercepting trucks, looting some and burning others, residents and local security officials told Arab News.

“These are extremist groups who were oppressed and prevented (by the Barzani government Kurdish authorities) from working before,” Najat Hussien, the acting mayor of Tuz Khurmatu, told Arab News.
“They are Kurdish militants (and are) joined by Daesh militants who fled the neighboring areas,” Hussien said. “They are sleeper cells that were waiting for the right time and place to resume their activities.”
Tuz Khurmatu is one of the disputed areas between Baghdad and the Iraqi Kurdish region
On Tuesday, a mortar attack hit the center of the town, killing two civilians and injuring a further dozen, security sources said.
A few days earlier, three trucks on the main Baghdad-Kirkuk way were burned after their drivers were kidnapped, sources said. Last month at least 24 people were killed when a suicide car bomb exploded in central Tuz.
The group, which residents call “the Owners of the White Flags,” has emerged over the past two months after Iraqi security forces backed by the Shiite-dominated Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) drove the Kurdish forces out of almost 95 percent of the disputed areas and pushed them back into the 2003-constitutionally agreed border of the Kurdish region on Oct. 16.
Kurdish sources and residents of Tuz Khurmatu told Arab News that the group is led by Assi Al-Qawali, a Kurdish Peshmerga “volunteer” of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, one of the biggest Kurdish political parties to govern Kurdistan. Al-Qawali and his group are fighting to “liberate the Kurdish lands — occupied by the Iranian Shiite militias.”
“Sheikh Mujahid Assi … is leading an armed group in Tuz Khurmatu as a part of the Kurdish popular resistance against the Shiite terrorist militias,” Kurdish Peshmerga Maj. Islam Chali tweeted on Tuesday.
“The Kurdish popular resistance launched Katyusha rockets (targeting) the Shiite militias and the terrorist Shiite Turkmen Hashid in Tuz Khurmatu,” Chali, tweeted hours after Tuesday’s rocket attack on Tuz.

Chali and other local Kurdish sites have circulated several photographs showing Al-Qawali and his fighters, all of whom were masked except Al-Qawali.
Al-Qawali has posted photographs of himself wearing traditional Kurdish dress and carrying a Kalashnikov on his Facebook page. Other photographs show him sitting next to sophisticated machine guns.
Local residents report..
“We know him because he previously participated in the riots in Tuz in 2015 and 2016 and he was burning the houses of Turkmen at that time,” Jankiz Tuzlu, a Turkman resident of Tuz, told Arab News.
Iraqi security and intelligence officials have ruled out the emergence of a new armed group and say intelligence reports suggest that “the Owners of White Flags” are actually the Kurdish radical group Ansar Al-Islam or “the Supporters of Islam,” which settled in the villages between the mountains of Hamrin and the Iraqi-Iranian border, and Daesh militants who fled the nearby towns and cities.
Ansar al- Islam---- that rings a bell. Very loudly. Very clearly. If you've been following along with the Syrian destabilization, like I have, from the beginning that is.. you will recall Ansar al Islam.

Let's flashback to this 2016 post?
Ansar Al Islam (Syrian "rebels") have US Approved Anti-Aircraft Missiles or Manpads
Ansar al Islam had US approved weapons...
Let's go back to this post

"Although on a much smaller scale, another confrontation emerged, this time between the PUK and a radical Islamist group called Ansar al-Islam that had established its base in the mountainous area near Halabja on the border with Iran"
My commentary at that time....
So many of the same groups still around today- Some readers here may recall me mentioning Ansar al Islam as a Kurdish group of radical Islamists.. Some readers may recall me mentioning it seemed much more probable that the Kurds killed (gassed) in Halabja were killed by other kurdish factions, rather then Saddam Hussein- Much in the same way that it was the rebels that used sarin gas in Syria.
My opinion has not changed. I absolutely believe it is way more sensible that Kurdish groups, backed most likely by the USrael killed the kurdish people of Halabja- That atrocity provided the justification for the desired attack on Iraq-
Ansar Al-Islam seeks to apply 7th-century Islamic rule in Iraq. Mullah Krekar, also known as Faraj Ahmad Najm Al-Deen, reportedly founded Ansar Al-Islam in 2001 with funding and logistical support from Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. The group pledged allegiance to Daesh in 2014 and fought with them under their banner.
The creation of Ansar al Islam, which did in fact take place earlier then 2001, fits perfectly into Afghanistan, 9/11 false flag sweep it all up blame and frame Iraq and kick off those birth pangs of the new middle east!
The intelligence officer told Arab News that their initial reports indicated that Al-Qawali was not the real leader of “the Owners of the White Flags,” but a front to hide the real links and goals behind the recent attacks in the northern disputed areas is a simple person who has nothing to do with leadership and radical Islamic ideas. They (Kurdish parties) use him as a facade to hide behind the group of Ansar Al-Islam and Daesh,” a senior intelligence Iraqi officer, who declined to be named, told Arab News.
Ansar al Islam and Daesh- KurdIShIS

“All this (the daily attacks) aims to force Baghdad to negotiate with them (the Kurds) and allow the Kurdish forces to come back and gain control over the area again,” the officer said.“We are totally aware of this and it’s a matter of time to end it.”

Ansar al Islam
Ansar al-Islam (AI), also known as Ansar al-Sunna or Jamaat Ansar al-Islam (JAI), was (still is)  a predominantly Kurdish, Salafist militant organization based in Iraqi Kurdistan
From its inception, AI had close ties with Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda (AQ) AQ had purportedly been responsible for training one of AI’s predecessor organizations, Jund al-Islam, when it had formed earlier in 2001.  Additionally, many of the initial AI members were veterans of the Soviet-Afghanistan War during which they had fought alongside bin Laden and the Mujahedeen. [9] Some sources even allege that over a hundred of Ansar al-Islam’s original members were Al Qaeda fighters[10] Although it has never been confirmed, it is believed that AI also received funds, training, and weapons from Al Qaeda.

LF Interview: Ivelin Sardamov- Amused to Death/The False Promise of the Information Age

Still crunched for time. Apologies to all.

I managed to listen to another interview today that is, again, worth sharing.
About an hour in length covering Mr Sardamov's new book  Mental Penguins – The Neverending Education Crisis and the False Promise of the Information Age.

With thanks to Legalise freedom for making this interview freely available!

Ivelin Sardamov – Amused to Death: The False Promise of the Information Age

Sardamov draws on key findings in neuroscience to explain decreasing attention spans, a crisis of curiosity, and waning interest in and knowledge of complex social issues in the United States and around the world. Attributing this trend primarily to the effects of information overload, ubiquitous screens, and constant access to the Internet, he argues that chronic over-stimulation generated by the current socio-technological environment fosters addictive tendencies in today’s young people, many of whom will graduate from profit-driven universities both mired in debt and unprepared for life in the outside world.
This worrying and worsening situation also breeds apathy, disengagement, and social dysfunction, and almost certainly contributes to the ongoing decline in written and spoken language, and even basic cognition. All this among an increasingly-narcissistic and entitled populace weaned on celebrity culture, safe spaces, and political correctness. As with many mostly technological problems, the solution is too often seen as the application of yet more technology. If we wish to stop this downturn, however, and ultimately change course, we must be prepared to face some very uncomfortable truths

Bashar Assad : Kurds That Work With Americans... Traitors

Well, I for one am glad that fact has been clarified. YPG/PKK/PYD, work alongside the Americans and they are traitors to Syria. They were NEVER the best or fiercest fighters against ISIS!

"In response to a question about the actions of Kurds in the eastern area and their cooperation with the Americans, President al-Assad said that it’s not right to say that a Syrian group – whether ethnic or religious – has a uniform characteristic, because this makes no sense since all groups are diverse, and the various groups in Syria have the good and the bad, so talking about “Kurds” is imprecise as there are various groups in the eastern region working with foreign sides, specifically the Americans.

“This isn’t me saying that; they declare that they work under cover of the American warplanes and in coordination with them. They marketed and published photos and videos about this issue. All those who work under the command of any foreign country in their own country and against their army and people are traitors, quite simply, regardless of their names, and that is our evaluation of the groups that work for the Americans in Syria,” the President said."

Yet Another Early Ice Wine Grape Harvest!

As mentioned last week it’s been very cold for late fall. As sub zero temps persist the ice wine grape harvest got under way December 13th in Niagara- At least a whole month ahead of the usual harvest time. Which is usually mid to late JanuaryThe 2017 Ice Wine grape harvest kicked off one day earlier then last years earlier then usual harvest!

I’m awfully close to wine country- physically (living in Niagara) and in my heart ;)

Let's talk another late fall ice wine harvest!
Winter kicking off officially December 21/17
Sub Zero Temps Marks Start of  Niagara Wine Harvest- December 13/2017

"The Icewine harvest started in Niagara at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning when temperatures dropped below -8 C, the audited temperature for VQA rules, and Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery began picking Cabernet Franc grapes.
The Cabernet Franc grapes will be followed by Riesling and Vidal varietals.
“The forecast is showing plunging temperatures over the next few days,” said Matthew Speck, Co-Owner and Viticulturist, Henry of Pelham Family Estate Winery. “With the expected cold weather in Niagara, we are excited to harvest the 2017 Icewine crop. Due to the exceptional growing conditions this year, and especially the warm, dry fall, we are anticipating one of our largest Icewine crops in our 30 year history.”

December cold snap means early icewine grape harvest

Icewine grape growers got a lucky break with Mother Nature this week as sudden and persistent sub-zero temperatures allowed them to harvest the grapes nearly a month ahead of schedule.
Growers across the region started picking certain varieties of grapes as early as Wednesday, Dec. 13.
At Pillitteri Estate Winery, the machine was out in the field by 3 a.m. on Thursday, but director of viniculture Jamie Slingerland said they had to wait until about 5 a.m. for the conditions to be ideal.
When Ice grape harvests occurred later, which they have, once that I can recall,  the news reports screamed AGW (man made global warming)- When the harvest occurs earlier because of frigid temperatures, two years in a row, the media ignores the reality.

Last years early harvest was covered here too!

AGW ? Fall Ice Wine Harvest-...

While it’s not officially winter here yet...Winter kicks off December 21st. The solstice.  The weather we’ve experienced?  Brutally cold  for this time of year! Temps well below normal- getting very little media coverage, of course! Doesn’t fit with the hard sell of our impending carbon tax/cap and trade in Ontario- you know more taxes to impoverish us all?
Let’s look at how AGW is affecting my neck of the woods:
December 14/2016- The Ice Wine Grape Harvest is On!
This has got to be one of the earliest harvest I can ever recall- Usually they aren’t until January or February.
Instead, at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, (December 14/2016)  harvest started on the winery's 8 hectares of icewine grapes. Thanks to a cold snap when temperatures dipped below the required -8 C mandated under VQA rules for an icewine harvest, they were able to pick a little earlier than last year — about 21 days earlier.

Here's another report from 2016: Early IceWine Harvest...

It's like the polar bear spin... The mascot chosen to push the carbon agenda- Yet ignore all the reality- like colder temps- birds and bats massacred by 'clean green' grotesque wind turbines and mass fish die offs from "green" tidal projects. (see comment previous post)

Wind Power Weaked by AGW?! So Many Bats & Birds Killed for A Green Hoax

Hey Greg and Noor:

I agree we have an affect on the environment- I would add that every living creature on this planet affects the environment.

Deer chewing tree barks- other critters eating bird eggs etc- It all affects everything

Yet those wind turbines killing off birds and bats- is ignored to push a specific agenda- I detest the bait and switch being employed- the polar bears by all appearances are doing fine- thriving, but what about the vital birds and bats?

They did a big water/energy project (Tidal Power) in the Bay of Fundy to generate 'clean energy' when they got the project going there was an immediate mass fish die off.

Barely noticed by the media and solidly ignored by the green cult

“The environmental effects monitoring plans (EEMP) for fish and lobster fall well short of their intended mark,” Avery told National Observer. “There’s nothing in there that’s of value to show the long-term and cumulative effects on fish or lobster populations right now.”

The EEMP was established to measure the impact tidal, in-stream energy conversion devices could have on fish, seabirds, marine mammals, lobster, marine noise, ocean bed habitats and other variables.

Avery is an assistant professor of biology, mathematics and statistics at Acadia University who specializes in fish habitat and several at-risk species in the Bay of Fundy, including the striped bass, the little skate and winter skate.

no matter- it's 'green' and costs a fortune
no one gives a hoot about fish, birds or bats- not when it has a green label

" Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Nova Scotia Power have long known that the Annapolis tidal turbine kills significant numbers of fish.

As a result, Acadia University professor and former Fisheries and Oceans scientist Michael Dadswell is accusing Nova Scotia Power of being in violation of the Fisheries Act and the federal department of not enforcing it.

“Either (Fisheries and Oceans) does not pay attention to its own scientists or they have been in cahoots with Nova Scotia Power all these years to deny the extreme decimation of the Annapolis fish populations,” said Dadswell."

It can't be green or environmentally friendly if it's killing everything in it's path

Inconvenient truths, I guess?
